At ‘oh-dark-thirty’ Saturday morning, I sat in my back yard staring into the dark sky in the direction of Orion the Hunter in the hope of spotting a meteor or two as the Earth passes through the dust of Halley’s Comet. The annual event is called the Orionid Meteor Shower. In the stillness of the early morning, I made my commitment to answer the call that has been speaking to me for several months. In 2012, I will make my Vision Quest.
I am announcing it here and now because by verbalizing it to you, the reader, I create accountability for myself. I will make my Vision Quest on the Summer Solstice in 2012. I will prepare my site in the desert, and on June 20, 2012, I will hike to that site and sit there for 24 hours.
I would ask each person who reads this blog to consider making her own Vision Quest on that day in 2012. I am fortunate to live in the desert, but that is not a prerequisite. If I lived in a high-rise in Manhattan without the opportunity to escape the city, I would still make my quest sitting in my room for 24 hours. As we move towards that date, I will offer thoughts and ideas that I learn about the Vision Quest as I continue my research.
I believe that my purpose in life will be clearer to me when I return. I will allow the Desert to lead me to my heart where I know God will speak to me. Cherokee Morning Song
