Today is a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. We should celebrate Thanksgiving Day every day. I believe we are a culture that takes too many good things for granted. Don’t be counted among those churlish souls who fail to be thankful, who think that life owes them something.

I am more thankful when I am challenged than when life is a bowl of cherries. Challenges influence us not to take good things for granted. It is when one’s back is against the wall that we reach deep and find the strength to do the right thing. It is at that moment that we are apt to be most thankful for what we do have, rather than rue those things we don’t have or don’t need.

Today, Mrs. tVM and I are especially thankful for our children and grandchildren who stood by us, encouraged us and helped us face our recent challenges and helped us reach this day with smiles on our faces and love in our hearts.

As the Christmas season is upon us, I wish you glad tidings and abundant blessings. Make every day a day of thanksgiving.

  1. Good word, Gene. I like your use of the words ‘churlish’ and ‘rue.’ Keep writing.
