Desert Reflections: Who knows what prayer and fasting might bring?

The appearance of a cloud “as small as a hand” in today’s first reading signals the end of the years-long drought Elijah had proclaimed.  Elijah’s prayers and fasting had been heard: God prevailed over Baal.   What might our prayers bring, Fr Peter wonders, especially if we complete them with a little fasting?

 Today’s Readings

Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, crouched down to the earth, and put his head between his knees. “Climb up and look out to sea, ” he directed his servant…  The youth reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea.”
1 KGS 18:41-46
