Desert Reflections: The Gentile Pentecost

Peter and the circumcised believers with him are astounded in today’s first reading as the gift of the holy spirit pours out on the gentiles – just as it had for them at Pentecost.  Don’t be surprised, Fr Peter points out, if we too find the holy spirit “nudging” us from our comfort zones to deliver the promise of God’s love – even to those we might consider unworthy.

Today’s Readings

The Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word. The circumcised believers … were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles.
ACTS 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48

God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.
1 JN 4:7-10

“This I command you: love one another.”
