Desert Reflections: The Shekinah

God’s “Shekinah” as cloud-presence in the Temple in today’s first reading is so thick that the priests can no longer minister. For Jesus, we find God so present that his power may be felt even in the tassel of Jesus’ cloak. After his ascension, Fr Paul points out, Jesus sends us the gift of the holy spirit, making our very hearts the home of the Shekinah.

Today’s Readings

When the priests left the holy place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD so that the priests could no longer minister because of the cloud, since the LORD’s glory had filled the temple of the LORD.
1 KGS 8:1-7, 9-13

They laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
MK 6:53-56
