Desert Reflections: Salt and Light

Fr Charlie points out that if we truly want to be the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world” then we need to learn to listen to God’s Spirit speaking within us.  It is God’s Spirit that allows us to determine right from wrong  – not the word of others.

 Today’s Readings

O God, from whom all good things come, grant that we, who call on you in our need, may at your prompting discern what is right, and by your guidance do it.

Elijah said to [the widow], “Do not be afraid… For the LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘The jar of flour shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'”
1 KGS 17:7-16

Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”
MT 5:13-16
