Desert Reflections: Putting our concerns in God’s hands

The approach of today’s saint, Anthony of Padua, and of Elijah was to put their problems in God’s hands.  It certainly worked for for Elijah in the first reading: God eliminated the threat of Jezebel and her 450 prophets of Baal. Fr Paul notes that it’s also an approach we draw upon every time we ask St Anthony to put in a good word for us with God to find something we’ve lost.

 Today’s Readings

Elijah appealed to all the people and said,”How long will you straddle the issue? If the LORD is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him.”
1 KGS18:20-39

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.”
MT 5:17-19
