Fr Paul notes that the royal official in today’s gospel had to travel a day’s journey (16 miles) to Cana to reach Jesus, who had just completed the much longer journey (68 miles) from Jerusalem. Both were clearly tired, yet even so, Jesus cannot resist healing the royal official’s son – as he cannot resist healing us if we, like the royal official, make Jesus our destination.
Thus says the LORD: Lo, I am about to create new heavens and a new earth.
Now there was a royal official whose son was ill in Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had arrived in [Cana of] Galilee from Judea, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, who was near death.
