Desert Reflections: Digesting a “Markan Sandwich”

Fr Peter points out that Mark employs his favorite “sandwich” construction in today’s gospel, taking three separate stories and combining them into one without much regard to geography or chronology, to emphasize the point that God invites all into his kingdom. Even if we are rejected by everyone else, we are part of Jesus’ family if we do God’s will.
